The World Journalism Awards is a new event launched to recognise and celebrate the vital role of public interest journalism around the world.
The World Journalism Awards are open to all media and have a simple aim: to celebrate and promote great public interest journalism on whatever platform it appears. They provide a unique opportunity for sponsors to support journalism at a global level and interact with some of the most influential people in the world.
Entries are judged by an independent panel of judges against strict criteria which includes: journalistic skill and rigour, impact and serving the public interest.
Press Gazette has been promoting media excellence in the UK since 1965 and now has a more global focus, providing media industry leaders with the information they need to thrive in the digital age. This event builds on that work. Press Gazette’s 2021 Media Freedom Healthcheck found that 70% of the world’s population live in a country with critical issues around media freedom. So it has never been more important to trumpet the vital role public interest journalism plays around the world.
To qualify for the World Journalism Awards, work must have been appeared in a professional newspaper, website, broadcast outlet or magazine between 1 September 2020 and 31 August 2021
